Merging multiple PDF files into a single document is one of the most common document tasks. Whether you are combining government forms, joining a CV with certificates, or consolidating monthly reports, Doclair's Merge PDF tool handles it in seconds — free, with no watermark added.
When Do You Need to Merge PDFs?
The need to combine PDFs comes up constantly, especially in India where government processes and job applications require multiple documents in a single submission:
- Government form submissions: Many state government portals require all supporting documents in one PDF file
- Job applications: Combining a CV, cover letter, mark sheets, and experience certificates into one file
- GST and tax filing: Merging invoices, bank statements, and receipts for CA submissions
- Bank loan applications: Joining salary slips, ITR, and identity documents
- College admission: Combining multiple certificates for university portals
- Research and reports: Joining chapters or sections written separately
How to Merge PDF Files Free — Step by Step
- Go to doclair.in/merge-pdf.
- Drop all your PDF files onto the upload area — or click to browse and select multiple files at once (hold Ctrl on Windows, Cmd on Mac to select multiple).
- Set the order: Drag files up or down in the list to arrange them in the exact order you want in the final PDF.
- Click Merge PDFs — your browser combines all pages into a single document.
- Download the combined file. No watermark is added.
Getting the Page Order Right
The order you arrange files in the list is exactly the order they appear in the merged PDF. If you have a CV (file 1), cover letter (file 2), and certificates (files 3–6), drag them into that order before merging. You do not need to renumber or rename files — the position in the drag list is what matters.
If you need to reorder pages within a single PDF before merging, use Doclair's Rearrange Pages tool first, then add the reordered file to the merge queue.
Merging PDFs on iPhone and Android
Open doclair.in/merge-pdf in Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android). Tap the upload area and choose files from your Files app. On iPhone, you can select multiple files at once by tapping Select in the Files app, then checking multiple PDFs.
After merging, the combined PDF downloads automatically to your device's Downloads folder. From there, you can share it via WhatsApp, email, or upload it to any portal.
Why Avoid Free Tools That Add Watermarks?
Many free PDF mergers add a visible watermark — typically "Merged by [Tool Name]" or a logo on every page — unless you pay. Smallpdf adds watermarks on the free plan. ILovePDF's free tier is limited. Adobe's free tools are extremely restricted.
Doclair never adds watermarks to any output file, on any tool, on any plan — because there is only one plan: free. The business model is sustainability through organic traffic, not frustrating users into paying.
How Many PDFs Can I Merge at Once?
Doclair supports up to 50 files per merge session. There is no server-side page limit — the only real constraint is your device's available memory. Most modern smartphones and laptops can easily handle merging a 200-page document from 20 separate files without any issue.
For very large merges — say, 500 pages from 50 files — close other browser tabs and apps first to give the browser maximum memory. If your device runs out of memory mid-merge, the browser tab will crash (this is a browser safety mechanism, not a tool bug). In that case, merge in two batches and then merge the resulting two files.
Merge PDFs Without Uploading to a Server
This matters for sensitive documents. Doclair's merge function runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib — an open-source JavaScript PDF library. Your files are read from your device, combined in browser memory, and the result is saved back to your device. No data ever leaves your machine, which makes it safe for merging confidential documents like salary slips, medical records, and legal contracts.
